National licences

In order to improve the long-term provision of electronic subject-specific information for German universities, research centres and scholarly libraries, the German Research Foundation has been funding the acquisition of national licences since 2004. The aim is to give academics, students and private individuals interested in scholarly matters free access to databases, digital text collections and electronic journals.

Of the many national licence products available, the following are of foremost interest for East European Studies:

As a rule, university members are able to make use of an existing institutional registration. This practice allows for easy access at German universities, research institutes and academic libraries without the need for a special login. If your computer is not located within your home institution's campus, you should make on-site enquiries as to additional access options (e.g. local login). If you have no access via an academic library or university, but nevertheless reside in Germany, you should register as a private individual. Central registration is possible through the national licence website.
